public class HiveCharWritable
extends HiveBaseCharWritable
implements org.apache.hadoop.io.WritableComparable<HiveCharWritable>

HiveCharWritable. String values will be padded to full char length. Character legnth, comparison, hashCode should ignore trailing spaces.
