Heidelberg

We are indebted to Canberk Inan for the following information.

With its pedestrian zone in the “Hauptstraße” Heidelberg offers a lot of accommodation around the clock. Restaurants, museums, bars, shopping – it’s all there.

The pedestrian zone is about 1.4 km long and crosses the old town. It has countless side streets which all have something interesting, whether it is a bar, a restaurant or even something from a sightseeing point of view.

Public transportation runs to the Bismarckplatz, which is right at the beginning of the pedestrian zone. The first part of the zone is about shopping for the most part; some fast food but also chocolatiers (check side streets). The last part of the zone is all about restaurants, bars and souvenirs. If you’re looking for restaurants here is a very good guide to the best places in town. If you want to see reviews, this site shows ratings from people who already went to check out some places (good to cross reference with the preceding link).

If you’re out looking for party drinking during the night (until 3 o’clock – some till 4) visit the “Untere Straße”. These bars are Heidelberg’s nightlife location and very popular with the local students. There is even an Absinthe shop (open during daytime).

At the end there is the famous “Bergbahn”, which connects to the castle and runs all the way up to the “Königsstuhl”. Both locations are worth the visit. The castle has a great garden with a magnificent view over Heidelberg and a special is the 130.000 Liter wine barrel (only during opening times).

If you’re out for a dance there are a few locations you might want to check out. Nachtschicht:
