Peter Cooper-Ellis is Vice President of R&D for the SpringSource Division of VMware. Peter has more than 25 years of experience managing both open-source and proprietary enterprise software product development teams including transaction processing systems, messaging systems, Web application servers, Java Virtual Machine (JVM), Java frameworks, customer support and security products.

Prior to VMware, Peter served as Senior Vice President of Engineering and Product Management for SpringSource. At SpringSource, Peter built out all aspects of the engineering, product management and product marketing teams behind the SpringSource middleware, product suite. Peter was a member of the leadership team that grew the SpringSource open-source community to 3 million developers. SpringSource was acquired by VMware in 2009, for $420M.
