In today's highly connected environment of social networks, cloud computing and instantly accessible data, the volume and variety of content users face often seem intractable. Search and machine learning play a vital role in ensuring users can find critical information ever more quickly and efficiently. Thanks to popular, highly scalable and flexible search solutions like Apache Lucene and Apache Solr and machine learning libraries like Apache Mahout, Weka and OpenNLP, the state of open source search and machine learning tools has never been better. This talk will explain the building blocks of intelligent search and recommendation applications and discuss how open source libraries can be used to build compelling, scalable applications on-time and under budget.
