JetSpeed is an Open Source implementation of an open protocol GroupWare product. The market is currently occupied with various Enterprise GroupWare packages (Lotus Notes, Microsoft Exchange, etc) but none are Free or Open Source. The backend (search engines, news, weather, POP3/IMAP/LDAP/NNTP, database) will be based on other open source packages. JetSpeed will be the front-end. This will allow the user to mix and match best-of-bread products under one user interface.
There is a significant opportunity for JetSpeed to be a test bed for other Apache technologies including JServ, James, Avalon and Cocoon.
JetSpeed is currently in development. A 1.0 product is anticipated shortly.
