The Apache History Project is an attempt to capture some of the history of the Apache Web Server project, and the other projects that have grown out of, and alongside of, it, before it passes out of memory. Apache is important not only as an excellent piece of software, but as an example of how free software development is supposed to work. So this project strives not only to highlight important historical events, but also important philosophical decisions made over the years which made Apache successful. The project is still in the formative stages, and this page is put up mainly as a placeholder until we get some of the initial work done and have something to put here. The mailing list for the Apache History Project is history@apache.org. You may subscribe to this mailing list by sending email to history-subscribe@apache.org. The archive for this list (in raw mbox format) is located at . - [Purpose and goals](goals.html) - [Apache Software Foundation timeline](timeline.html) - Version histories of each subproject
