Proposal for Servlet Package

(0) Rationale

The Servlet package provides a a set of useful tools and utilities that support servlet-based web applications. Creating a package package for development and distribution of servlet tools and utilities will encourage reuse and minimize duplication of effort.

(1) Scope of the Package

The package will create and maintain a number of classes to support developement of servlets and be distributed under the ASF license.

(1.5) Interaction With Other Packages

The Servlet package relies on:

• Java Development Kit (Version 1.2 or later)
• Servlet 2.3 API

No external configuration files are utilized.

(2) Initial Source of the Package

The initial classes came from the Commons.Util subproject.

The proposed package name for the new component is org.apache.commons.servlet.

(3) Required Jakarta-Commons Resources

• SVN repository - New directory servlet in the jakarta-commons SVN repository.
• Mailing List - Discussions will take place on the general dev@commons.apache.org mailing list. To help list subscribers identify messages of interest, it is suggested that the message subject of messages about this component be prefixed with [Servlet].
• Bugzilla - New component "Servlet" under the "Commons" product category, with appropriate version identifiers as needed.
• Jyve FAQ - New category "commons-servlet" (when available).
