Ex-Jakarta

Over the years Jakarta has contained many projects, some of them are still with us and some of them have moved to become their own Apache projects. A few have reached a state where the community have decided that enough is enough and it's time to put them out to pasture. This page lists these retired projects.

Alexandria Alexandria is a CVS/Javadoc/Source code/Documentation management system meant for use within Open Source projects.
Agila Agila was a lightweight BPM engine that entered the Incubator under Jakarta's sponsorship, however its activity ended up moving to another incubating project - Ode.
Cactus Cactus was a simple test framework for unit testing server-side java code (Servlets, EJBs, Tag Libs, Filters, ...).
ECS The Element Construction Set is a Java API for generating elements for various markup languages it directly supports HTML 4.0 and XML. Users are encouraged to switch to other techniques for markup generation.
java.apache.org Many moons ago there was a java.apache.org project, with its main project being Apache JServ. For legal reasons the name Jakarta was preferred and its timing coincided with the replacement of JServ with Apache Tomcat. Archived information on JServ is still available at this url.
ORO Set of text-processing Java classes that provide Perl5 compatible regular expressions, AWK-like regular expressions, glob expressions, and utility classes for performing substitutions, splits, filtering filenames, etc. Users are encouraged to use similar features in newer Java versions.
Regexp 100% Pure Java Regular Expression package. Users are encouraged to use similar features in newer Java versions, such as java.util.regexp
Slide A WebDAV aware content management system. Users are encouraged to use Apache Jackrabbit instead.
Taglibs Many of the Taglibs formerly in Jakarta Taglibs have been retired to the Attic. More at Retired Taglibs. Some moved to Apache Taglibs.
